Canada’s Votes and We Punjabi Voters

The federal elections are going to be held in April across Canada. Although many political parties claim to contest the elections on paper, in reality the main competition is between the current ruling Liberal Party and the main opposition Conservative Party. The NDP is currently a third party but has been a stumbling block for the Liberal government in the past. Since the main leader of the federal NDP is Jagmeet Singh, the Punjabi community is naturally drawn to his party, but other political parties also do not let the opportunity to use people of Indian origin as their vote bank go to waste. In those constituencies where there is a majority of people of Indian origin, especially Punjabis, the candidates of both parties are of Punjabi origin. Only a Punjabi candidate can compete with a Punjabi candidate. Although this formula suits the political parties perfectly, it only creates divisions within the Punjabi community. During the Canadian elections, the fact that our Punjabi community does not have a firm ideology of its own regarding the political parties or whether it agrees or disagrees with the party’s ideologies is also dangerous for the community. What used to happen in Punjab is the same situation that is happening during the Canadian elections. Political parties use people who are called religious and social workers as pressure groups these days. Temples, mosques and gurdwaras have also not been able to escape this attack of political parties. Most Punjabi voters believe that wherever so-and-so says, we will vote there. Even so-and-so keeps telling big party leaders that I have such a big vote bank from our community. The situation of most Punjabi voters is that they have not yet made up their minds as to which candidate their vote should go to. Another very bad trend is that children born in Canada are often told by their elders that this time they have to vote for such and such a candidate on the advice of so and so, whereas children born here are aware of the good and bad policies of these political parties. Therefore, when they give a flat answer, then the parents do not have any solid vocabulary to convince them about the candidate they have suggested. Punjabis who come to Canada should abandon the traditional habit of voting on someone’s advice and get into the habit of looking at the policies of the political parties in Canada. Candidates’ resumes should be checked. Candidates who are contesting elections for the second or third time should have their past performance files reviewed. Keep an eye on how much this candidate’s side business has flourished after entering politics. How many companies have been enriched by using political influence? Now the federal elections of Canada are going to be held on April 28, 2025. So Punjabio You can only improve your and your children’s future by using this decisive hour properly. You have to get rid of the shackles of such and such a person because it is possible that such and such a person can raise the hem of a turban of any color from blue to orange or orange to blue or red to yellow during the next elections, but at that time, looking at his high hem, you will feel low.
